Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisis said yesterday that his country has “no problem” with strategic wheat reserves and that more money will be used to increase inventories if necessary.
The day before, Sisi had instructed its authorities to increase its strategic food reserves. Fear of food shortages is increasing in the Corona crisis.
Egypt announced last week that the country's wheat stocks would last four months before the local harvest. Also in the past week, Egypt's state-owned grain purchaser, GASC, launched a tender to buy wheat, but canceled it immediately afterwards. We did not find a reason for this.
Traders expect the purchasing conditions to be changed in favor of the providers before the next tender.
