Algeria's spending on imports of cereals, semolina and flour dropped last year by 11.7% year on year, official data show.
Algeria is one of the world's largest grain importers. Due to falling income in the energy sector, attempts have been made to reduce expenditure on imported cereals and other products.
The value of imports for durum wheat, soft wheat, semolina and flour reached $ 2.71 billion in 2019. In 2018, spending was $ 3.06 billion.
Total spending on imports decreased 6% to $ 8.07.
