Argentina doubles beef exports in 2018

The beef exports from Argentina to China could double in 2018. China's increased demand and depreciation of the Argentine peso could result in $ 1.8 billion worth of beef being exported.
Market experts expect exports of at least 400,000 tonnes of beef. That would be the largest export volume of the Argentine meat industry in the past nine years. This industry is doing well in the general economic crisis of the South American country.
Former Prime Minister Cristina Fernandez, who ruled from 2007 to 2015, had heavily regulated the export of beef. Since Mauricio Macri took office three years ago, beef exports have increased significantly. The country exported 200,000 tons of beef last year, and in 2018 could even reach 400,000 to 470,000 tons.
The dramatic increase is due to extremely good demand from China. From January 1 to July 2018, the Chinese bought 96,500 tons of Argentine beef. That was around half of the total exports of 184,000 tonnes.
