The dryness at the center of Argentine soybean production is expected to worsen this week. Farmers who now want to sow beans for harvest in 2018 are at great risk because the harvest shifts into the cold season, when frost could lead to crop damage, say the meteorologists.
In Argentina, up to 2.25 million hectares of soybeans are still not sown. Now the farmers sow in bone-dry soil and hope that there will be no early winter break in May. The meteorologist German Heinzenknecht predicts rain again in the period from 15 to 20 January. This week it stays dry at high temperatures.
Last week, the Buenos Aires Grains Exchange said that 18.1 million hectares of soybeans suffer from drought, many areas would not be ordered, according to the forecast then. Because the planting season ends in the first week of January.
