The Bulgarian Veterinary Inspectorate announced on Friday that another outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) had been detected in the north-east of the country and that 24,000 pigs had to be culled.
This is the first time since August last year that an industrial pig breeding and fattening farm has been involved. Back then, six farms in the Balkan state were hit by the disease and 130,000 animals had to be culled.
The outbreak has now been discovered on a farm near the town of Nikola Kozlevo in the Shumen region.
