The Association of Agricultural Cooperatives (DRV) estimates the German wheat harvest in 2020 at 22.73 million tons (-1.4% on the previous year). The winter rapeseed 2020 will be 18.4% higher and will probably be 3.34 million tons. Both estimates differ only slightly from the March forecast.
After France, Germany is the second largest wheat producer in the EU and usually the largest rapeseed producer. Rapeseed is Europe's most important oilseed from which edible oil and biodiesel are made.
Grain field stocks have developed well across Europe in recent weeks. Now, especially in light locations, rain is urgently needed. With the exception of maize, the sowing of summer cereals has been completed.
The winter barley harvest 2020 is estimated by the association at 9.67 million tons (-0.9%). Spring barley, which mainly produces malt for beer production, is estimated at 1.94 million tons (+ 6.1%).
Since more maize is being grown in Germany this year and higher yields are also expected, the association estimates the 2020 harvest at 4.09 million tons.
