The supply of pigs ready for slaughter finds its buyers relatively brisk, and market participants rate the situation as "balanced". Even so, leading slaughterhouses stick with it and only pay house prices for free pigs without a contract. Since the holidays fall on the weekend this year, the overhangs shouldn't be too big. For the next two weeks, the recommended union price will again be left unchanged at 1.23 euros / kg.
Due to the uncertain corona situation, meat traders are still acting very cautiously. At the moment, the typical Christmas items such as fillets and salmon in ham are still the focus of interest, but that should change after Christmas. While the need in the catering sector is a black box, there is definitely an interest in buying in the food retail sector. Contact restrictions and an impending lockdown after Christmas or the beginning of January increased the uncertainties.
