Australia reaps only half compared to the 20-year average

Compared to the 20-year average, the Australian harvest will only bring in half this year. The state of New South Wales in the east of the continent is the worst affected by the extreme drought. This is reported today by the Australian agricultural resource estimator Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics.
Some regions have experienced the worst dryness this year. The affected area is smaller than originally assumed.
The winter crop harvest in New South Wales, one of the continent's major wheat-growing regions, will be 65% smaller than the 20-year average. In eastern Australia, total agricultural production is down by 53%. Looking at Australia as a whole, crop damage is reported at 23%.
Around half of all agricultural land in southeastern Australia suffered from the worst drought in 20 years. In the drought year 2002/03 it was 80%.
