Bolsonaro supports ethanol industry

The new Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro wants to promote the biofuels sector in his country.
The President-elect on Sunday announced in a video message that he wanted Brazil to become the # 1 bioethanol producer in the world again and to reclaim from the US the rank it had a few years ago.
Brazil's new policy provides for a law that promotes the use of ethanol as an additive to gasoline and other Renewable Energy under the name of RenovaBio. This industry is of great importance to Brazil because it reduces the emission of fuel gases while reducing energy imports.
The RenovaBio program is important for the survival of the Brazilian sugar industry, which is currently in crisis, because sugar and ethanol prices have been very low for years. The law is scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2019. It provides for higher production volumes for biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel.
Until recently, it was still doubted that Bolsonaro would stick to the climate goal of Paris. Just before the decisive election for his presidency, he made a U-turn.
