China has lifted a three-year import ban of Brazilian beef, which today announced the Brazilian Ministry of agriculture. This opens up the possibility of an export volume of 500,000 million dollars. A total of eight slaughterhouses were released for export of beef to China, 17 more to follow in June.
Other countries, such as Japan and South Korea maintain its import ban on fresh beef from Brazil since 2012 because it fears the risk of infection from mad cow disease. The Animal World Health Organisation sees this risk is still possible.
Brazil is the world's largest beef exporter and the top trading partner China. Brazil exported beef worth $ 7.2 billion in 2014. The Brazilian Minister of Agriculture hopes that now the United States allows the import of Brazilian beef. The Brazilian President Dilma Russeff Washington visited in June.
