A Brazilian public prosecutor is suing a JBS slaughterhouse in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and is demanding that it be shut down because of the fact that employees in the facility are being tested positive for the new corona virus.
A verdict is not yet available. A further three lawsuits against JBS slaughterhouses are still pending. According to this, 21 out of 1,700 workers tested positive for Corona, two workers are treated in the hospital. JBS maintains that it adheres strictly to the hygiene guidelines. From the end of April to mid-May, the first slaughterhouses of various companies became conspicuous due to frequent corona tests.
In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, 3,201 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed among employees of 26 slaughterhouses. That is 35% of all reported cases across the country.
