Brazilian meat trader JBS is currently trying to import 200,000 tons of maize from abroad. Prices for the feed grain have risen significantly on the local market.
The deliveries will probably arrive at the beginning of 2020 when the company's own market supply decreases. JBS has not disclosed where the imported maize will come from. Companies from Argentina and Paraguay usually supply it.
Corn prices in Brazil have risen by more than 30% since September. JBS already ordered maize from Argentina earlier this year for its fattening plants in the south of the country.
