UK wheat exports rose in December due to deliveries to the United States and are well above last season's pace, as customs data on Tuesday showed. Wheat exports amounted to 96,111 tons in the reporting month after 71,463 tons in the previous month.
Exports to countries within the EU decreased to 34,763 tons, the lowest monthly amount in the 2019/20 season (July / June), while deliveries to countries outside the EU reached a seasonal high of 61,328 tons. The United States was the main destination in December, at 53,000 tons, followed by 20,742 tons (Ireland). Cumulative wheat exports for the 2019/20 season were 841,414 tons after 176,114 tons in the same period of the previous year. Wheat exports are expected to increase this season and production will increase by almost 20% to a four-year high of 16.22 million tons. British wheat imports in December totaled 116,065 tons after 58,242 tons in the previous month. Cumulative wheat imports for the season amounted to 551,807 tons, a significant decrease compared to 1.2 million tons in the same period last year.
