The UK Department of Agriculture lowered its estimate for the UK wheat crop in 2018 from 15.16 million tonnes to 14.84 million tonnes, which is still 3.2% more than this year.
The average wheat yield is estimated at 8.3 tonnes / hectare, previously 8.5 tonnes / hectare. In the previous year farmers harvested there an average of 7.9 tons per hectare.
The acreage, at 1.79 million hectares, remains 1.7% below that of the previous year.
The British rapeseed crop is now estimated at 2.17 million tonnes, which is slightly lower than the previous estimate but more than the crop harvested in 2017 at 1.78 million tonnes.
