British wheat harvest drops to 5-year low

The British Department of Agriculture today estimated that this year's wheat crop was 14.09 million tonnes. This is the smallest harvest in five years and 5.1% less than last year.
At 7.8 tonnes / hectare, yields were reduced by 5.3%, partially offsetting the 0.3% larger acreage to 1.8 million hectares.
Deteriorating heat and long dry seasons limited wheat yields throughout northern Europe.
The barley harvest in the UK fell by 7.9% to 6.61 million tonnes, while rapeseed production was 5.3% lower than in the previous year. 2.05 million tons of oilseeds were harvested on the island.
