Matif maize rose by EUR 0.75 per tonne to EUR 290.00 per ton yesterday, Thursday. Looking at the first week of trading in the new year, the March date shows a minus of EUR 6.00 per tonne on the Euronext/Matif display board. First and foremost, corn prices followed the guidelines for wheat. Here, too, buyers used the recently reduced price level to build up new long positions. On the local cash markets, trading continues to run smoothly. At the closing bell, corn contracts on the CBoT closed slightly red. The front term lost 1 US cent. Converted, this contract is quoted at EUR 244.28 per ton. US ethanol production in the week after Christmas fell significantly, while inventories were only revised down slightly. Today the USDA releases export sales. The analysts expect a volume of 400,000 tons up to one million tons of corn. Pre-market signs are green on the eCBoT this morning.
