The Corona crisis in China is delaying the start of talks between Beijing and Ottawa on resolving political disputes, which will result in China blocking Canola.
China is upset that Canada arrested Huawei's chief financial officer at the request of the United States in December 2018. In the following months, Beijing decided that Canadian canola (rapeseed) may no longer be imported. Supposedly because of a too high weed seed content. Two Canadian citizens were also detained. They are accused of jeopardizing China's security.
Now that China is struggling with the aftermath of the coronavirus crisis, talks about resolving the conflict are delayed.
