In the first four months of 2020, China's meat imports rose 82% year over year to 3.03 million tons. China is currently very dependent on protein imports, regardless of whether they are vegetable or animal proteins, because of African swine fever.
China imported 862,000 tons of meat in April. Chinese customs authorities have not disclosed how this is divided between the various types of meat.
