The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture announced today that the government has approved two more genetically modified plants from the USA for export to China. The import permit for ten others has been extended. The permits are only valid for three years.
This month, Beijing and Washington agreed on the first part of a trade agreement (Phase 1), which also regulates the sourcing of US agricultural commodities to China. The USA has negotiated that China should make its import rules more transparent and also put them on a scientific basis. As a result, it is expected that applications will be processed more quickly by the approval authorities.
In the agreement, China has pledged to purchase more US agricultural goods.
