Cold wave in Russia threatens winter wheat stocks

A cold spell in Russia's South could threaten the local winter wheat stocks. In the period from 27 January to 4 February, temperatures are in the South West of the Rostov region and in the North West of Krasnodar region expected to 17 degrees Celsius from minus 8 to minus. A protective blanket of snow is not present in these areas, as Dmitry Rylko of the IKAR agricultural consulting firm. Both regions are important for Russia's wheat production. In the Rostov region is expected with damage over an area of 400,000-500,000 hectares, in the Krasnodar region, 300,000-400,000 acres are at risk.
