EU soft wheat exports in the current season, which started on 1 July, to 10.6 million tonnes by 2 January 2018. This is 20% less than in the previous year, when 13.3 million had been executed by this date.
Barley exports in the 2017/18 season reached 2.6 million tonnes, an increase of 14% over the same period last year.
Corn imports have so far reached 7.5 million tonnes, 46% more than in the previous year.
The EU Commission usually publishes grain import and export figures every Thursday. In the past three weeks, however, there were technical problems and the holidays prevented the publication of the numbers.
The latest figures confirm the trend that has prevailed so far: with its wheat exports, the EU is lagging well behind those of the previous year, which in particular is pursuing an aggressive export policy for Russia.
