China intends to monitor compliance with the precautions to limit African swine fever (ASF) in the coming months. This was announced today by the Minister of Agriculture in Beijing.
Despite all efforts, it was far from possible to restore the pig population from before the ASF outbreak. Animal transport and the occupancy of breeding sows are still the biggest risk factors and can risk the disease flare up again, the minister said in a video message to the local government authorities.
The provincial governments should therefore monitor the ongoing measures more closely so that the small and medium-sized farmers can return to their previous size as soon as possible.
Various new ASF outbreaks were reported in China this month. Mostly from provinces that are considered transit regions. The Ministry of Agriculture plans to review all ongoing measures over the next 60 days.
