The effects of the corona crisis have now also reached the potato market. The availability of freight containers is disrupted. Although the world market demand for French fries from Europe is still very good, it is probably not possible to process all orders immediately.
However, fry factories continue to work at full speed. Perhaps also because the first plantings for the next harvest do not come into the soil as early as desired. In western and central Europe it is much too wet for field work.
Meanwhile, the futures exchange is very volatile. The April 20 rate has been below the price of the current spot market for days. The retailers have probably lost confidence in stable prices. The actual situation on the cash market is not that bad. If exports to Eastern Europe get going again soon, the mood on the stock exchange could also improve again.
