The official statistics with data on the cultivation of field crops in Germany show a smaller area under potato cultivation than initially thought. The provisional area result is now 271,600 hectares. Market participants are skeptical despite the correction, because according to the administrative data IACS, which is used to apply for area subsidies, the area under cultivation is even smaller. Assuming the official statistics, an extrapolation results in a total German harvest of less than 10 million tons in 2019. That would be 400,000 tons less than initially assumed.
