DBV expects a rapeseed harvest of 4.07 million tons in Germany

The rapeseed contracts on the Euronext/Matif went south yesterday. Weaker trends were also evident on the cash markets. The front month on the Matif closed 3.75 euros/t lower at 465.25 euros/t. The German Farmers' Association has corrected the prospects for the local rapeseed harvest downwards. Instead of 3.96 t/ha as in the previous year, the association expects 3.51 t/ha and a total harvest of 4.07 million tons. Although the area has been significantly expanded, around 0.21 million tonnes less rapeseed is being taken from the fields than in the previous year. The German Raiffeisen Association also adjusted the harvest volume downwards at the end of last week and expects a total rapeseed harvest of 4.07 million tons in Germany. In its August report yesterday, the EU forecast service MARS also corrected the average rapeseed yields in Europe slightly downwards compared to July and expects 3.19 t/ha. The long-term average here is 3.10 t/ha. Higher than average rapeseed yields are still expected in Poland, France and Hungary. Spain and the Baltic States, on the other hand, are likely to show significantly lower yields on average over the past five years.
