The winter wheat harvests in the central regions of Ukraine, which make up a third of all the country's crops, are affected by bad weather and are still largely in a satisfactory condition, the agricultural consultancy APK-Inform has just announced.
Due to the severe drought in the main growing areas, the farmers could not sow all the planned areas with winter wheat for the 2022 harvest and planted a total of 6.2 million hectares or 94% of the expected area.
According to APK-Inform, the currently satisfactory condition of the cultivated plants is due to dry weather conditions in the regions from the beginning of the sowing to the development of the plants.
"Some farmers reported a possible overseeding of winter crops," said the consulting company.
In recent years, many Ukrainian regions have sown winter crops on dry soil in the hope that a humid and mild winter will allow the plants to grow and produce a good harvest.
Ukraine harvested a record 32.4 million tons of wheat in 2021.
