The German wheat crop will be smaller with 25.4 million tons this year to 4.4%, than in the previous year. This is the new estimate of the German Raiffeisen Federation today. Harvesting winter rape is estimated to 4.94 million tons to 1.2% less than in the previous year.
The German cereal harvest suffered constant rainfalls in the past few weeks.
The June estimates of the Association were at 25.7 million tons for wheat, while the canola harvest is estimated at that time still on 5.02 million tons.
Germany is France the second largest wheat producer in the EU, and wrestles with France to the top spot in the rapeseed production. Rapeseed is Europe's most important oilseed, is used for edible oils and biodiesel production. Also in France, the crop estimate for rape because of the many rainfall is withdrawn.
The German wheat crop will reach the average of the years 2010-2015 of about 25 million tonnes. The Association fears, however, that the quality of the harvested crop reduces the many rainfall. Large regional differences are expected and they're desperately waiting for sunshine. End of July the German wheat crop in all regions in motion will come. Rape harvesting begins next week.
