Dry Indian summer hinders potato harvest

The dry and hot autumn weather hinders the potato harvest in this country. Nevertheless, the supply is large enough to be able to meet the quiet demand for fresh potatoes. It is no longer cold enough at night to be stored in winter storage facilities. If you want to harvest potatoes from heavy soils, you have to irrigate beforehand to avoid damage. In the coming weeks the food retailer wants to start advertising campaigns with potatoes again. That could stimulate sales.
In Western Europe, the potato yields for food products are only average, for starch potatoes in France they are even poor. That is why the starch factories there are now also accepting table potatoes with a sufficiently high starch content. That could alleviate the surplus of potatoes for consumption there.
