A cold front is causing rainfall in the center of Brazil, which is delaying the start of soybean harvesting in the state of Mato Grosso. This was announced by the weather service Rural Climate weather consultancy.
The rains in central Brazil are expected to continue this whole week, and the harvest will cease regionally. Because the sky is overcast, the beans do not ripen so quickly and yields drop. Where it is dry, it can only be harvested up to three hours a day. High humidity leads to plant diseases.
Since the harvest in Mato Grosso is only at the beginning, there is still no reason for unrest; However, if the conditions remain poor until the end of January or even early February, beans are likely to be infected with rust in many parts of the country.
The weather reports highlight the effects of the weather phenomenon La Nina, which influences the climate of the southern hemisphere due to below-average temperatures in surface water in the eastern equatorial zone. This makes it too dry in southern Brazil and too wet in the center and north of the country. But it is difficult to predict what damage La Nina causes.
