Egypt appoints new Chief for the quarantine authority

Egypt, the largest wheat buyer in the world, has appointed a new Board of Directors of the quarantine authority for agricultural products. This body was responsible for a big confusion about tougher conditions of purchase.
Yesterday, the Ministry of agriculture in Cairo announced that the new head of the service of Najla Mousa Balabel is. He replaces Ibrahim Imbaby, who was appointed in March last year. The Ministry gave no reason for the change.
Imbaby had replaced Saad Moussa insisted that import wheat may have no trace of ergot fungi, although the international standard allows a tolerance of 0.05%. As a result, there were fewer and fewer deals on the wheat purchases by the Government. It came to a stalemate between the quarantine authority and the State purchase of GASC.
After the Government clarified with a resolution in November that the 0.05% tolerance to be applied, and with the General Organizations established a new agency for export and import control (GOEIC), which is to approve the exports and imports, the GASC was able to continue their current practice of shopping for wheat.
