Egypt announced on Wednesday that the Egyptian state will buy locally produced wheat from farmers. It is between 570 - 600 Egyptian pounds per Ardeb (150 kg). The price seems to be of little interest to farmers and could encourage them to grow other more profitable crops, according to Hussein Abou Saddam, CEO of the Farmers Syndicate. The demand is 700 Egyptian pounds per Ardeb.
Egypt is the largest wheat importer. The purchase price of locally produced wheat is based on the average price that Egypt paid for foreign wheat.
