The Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture announced today that it will set up a working group to revise the legislation (work instructions) for the Quarantine Authority. This authority had unsettled the world market for grain in 2016 by various complaints.
The world's largest importer of wheat caused chaos in the grain trade in 2016, when the Quarantine Department rejected all wheat deliveries that contained only traces of ergot. A Prime Minister's decree should end the crisis in 2017. It ordered that one should abide by the international quality standard, which provides for a tolerance limit of 0.05% ergot. This decree was collected by a court.
Now it is said that a committee should revise and harmonize the whole process of wheat imports.
