Eight Argentinian meat suppliers excluded from export to China

Meat exports from eight packing stations in Argentina to China have been suspended because company workers have been infected with the corona virus.
China is the most important buyer of beef for Argentina. Fearing a second wave of corona infection, the country in Asia has determined that meat imports from countries where the corona virus is particularly widespread, including Argentina and Brazil, have undergone particularly stringent import controls.
In this context, supplies from eight Argentine companies were temporarily blocked by China. China requires security guarantees from the Argentine state.
76% of Argentina's 634,000 tons of beef exports in 2019 were shipped to China. The Argentine government has since given the guarantees requested by China.
The South American country has reported 106,910 confirmed corona infections and has 2,000 corona deaths. Most cases have been reported in the greater Buenos Aires area, where most of the slaughterhouses are located. Cities in Argentina have been lockdown since March 20, and the country's economic output is expected to decrease by 12%.
