Nine suppliers took part in an international tender for the purchase of 400,000 tons of wheat from the Ethiopian government. The tender ended today.
So far, no contract has been awarded. However, observers expect that the requested 400,000 tons will also be offered. There is no information about the prices yet, it will probably not be known until next week.
However, some of the nine providers are rejected because their claims do not meet the needs of the buyers.
In another tender that ends tomorrow, Ethiopia plans to buy 200,000 tons of wheat. The grain in both tenders can be obtained by sellers from any surplus region in the world.
Ethiopia is struggling with the effects of dry spells that threaten the economic survival of farms in some regions of the country. In addition, swarms of locusts are currently afflicting East Africa.
