The lowest bid for an Ethiopian government bid to buy 400,000 tonnes of wheat is $ 250.15 / tonne in Ethiopian ports. But the grain has to go inland, so even more offers come into consideration.
The invitation to tender stipulates that a further offer for transport costs be made domestically. The lowest bid that meets the tender conditions is $ 269 / tonne c & f Ethiopian ports.
The tender was closed yesterday, but the authority has not yet awarded a contract.
Ethiopia is suffering the consequences of a drought that devastated large parts of the agricultural regions. The government has therefore decided a large import program for cereals, but failed so far on the contractual execution.
The new tender for the purchase of wheat should be delivered two months after signing the contract.
So far, offers for four x 100,000 tons are available, whereby the lowest offer (250,15 USD / to) must be discarded because no domestic freight is offered. The other offers are 258.15, 260.75 and 261.95 USD / to c & f.
In addition, two international trading houses have submitted offers for the entire 400,000 tonnes under contract terms. These are at 269 USD / to c & f Ethiopian ports. A second offer including domestic freight is 275.26 and 275.58 USD / to inclusive of domestic freight.
Observers assume that the offers are all from the Black Sea region or Pakistan.
