EU Member States today adopted a Commission proposal to extend the already existing partial ban on the use of neonicotinoids. Studies have shown that this substance is dangerous for bees.
Now, three commercially available insecticides containing this active substance may no longer be used outdoors. These are imidacloprid and thiamethoxam, both developed by Bayer CropScience, and clothianidin by Takeda Chemicals Industries.
In the future, these funds can only be used in permanent greenhouses where the presence of bees can not be expected.
