Yesterday, the EU Commission raised its monthly forecast for the wheat harvest in the 2019/20 marketing year from 146.8 to 147.2 million tons.
That would be 14.5% more than last season. Back then, the harvest in the EU was severely decimated by heat and drought and only 128.5 million tons were harvested.
Experts in Brussels now expect that the EU will also export more in the 2019/20 marketing season, namely 28 million tons. Last month, they were still expecting 26 million tons.
The maize harvest in the EU is now estimated at 67.8 million tons (previous month: 67.1). It is likely that 19 million tons will now have to be imported (previous month: 17).
