EU imported 25.79 million tons of corn

Yesterday, Matif maize went slightly north. The front month increases by 1.25 euros to 225.75 euros/t. At the start of the stock market on Wednesday, positive tendencies were again evident on the corn market. In the past marketing year, the EU countries together imported 25.797 million tons of maize, which is slightly more than 9.3 million tons more than in the 2021/22 marketing year. The poor harvest and the small quantities last summer made these import quantities necessary. The Ukraine supplied around 14.47 million tons or 56.5 percent of the imported maize volumes, while Brazil contributed around 31% of the EU requirement with 7.92 million tons. Other notable quantities came from Canada and Serbia. At around 460,000 tons, German imports are not particularly noticeable within the EU statistics. Spain imported the most maize at 8.55 million tons, followed by the Netherlands with 3.06 million tons and Italy with 2.68 million tons . The Ukrainian weather agency has put its forecast for this year's corn harvest in the war-torn country at 26 million tons, expecting a result that is 1.5 million tons higher than the USDA. There were no specifications from the CBoT yesterday, trading remained closed due to the holiday.
