In the slipstream of yesterday's generally difficult market environment, corn prices also slipped south. In Paris, the March contract lost EUR 3.25 per tonne and closed at EUR 289.25 per tonne. The other contracts also had red signs. On both the CBoT and the Euronext/Matif, falling crude oil prices and favorable export prices in Latin America and the Black Sea put pressure on price discovery. The USA in particular has had significant competition from Brazil, which exported more than 6.4 million tons of corn in December alone. A not unimportant customer in Brazil is Europe. As of January 2, 14.66 million tons of corn had been imported into Europe. Compared to the previous year, this corresponds to a doubling of the import volume. With 6.81 million tons, Brazil provided around 46.5% of European imports. A further 45.9% has come from Ukraine so far this marketing year. A slight plus can be seen on the eCBoT for the corn contracts premarket this morning.
