By 7 May, the EU exported 17.2 million tonnes of common wheat, 21% less than one year ago when it was 21.8 million tonnes. Barley exports in the 2017/18 marketing year amounted to 5 million tonnes, 7% more than a year earlier.
In addition, the EU imported 14.8 million tonnes of corn during this marketing year. This was 47% more than the 10 million tonnes on 7 May 2017.
These figures were published two days earlier than usual by the EU Bureau of Statistics because in many parts of the EU, Ascension Day is celebrated on Thursday.
