Institutional investors (non-commercial participants) increased their net long holdings of Matif wheat last week. The portfolio of 65,664 net long positions on futures and options from the previous week was reduced to 71,253 net long positions in the week ending April 30. This is shown by the COT report published by Euronext today. Investment funds, banks and insurance companies belong to the group of “non-commercial participants”.
The group of “commercial participants”, ie hedgers, reduced their portfolio of net short positions as of April 30 from 86,912 contracts to 80,833 net short contracts.
Commercial participants hold 76.1% of the total short positions. The long positions of commercial participants in the total long positions are 63.3%.
Non-commercial participants hold 15.0% of the total short positions and 27.8% of the total long positions.
The report includes 91.0% of the open short positions and 91.1% of the open long positions of the wheat futures.
For rapeseed, non-commercial participants increased the share of rapeseed futures and options from 817 to 7,964 contracts last week.
Commercial participants reduced their share of net short positions from 9,699 to 8,580 contracts.
