Institutional investors (non-commercial participants) increased their net long holdings of Matif wheat last week. The portfolio of 71,253 net long positions on futures and options from the previous week was increased to 74,153 net long positions in the week ending May 8. This is shown in the COT report published yesterday afternoon by Euronext.
Investment funds, banks and insurance companies belong to the group of “non-commercial participants”.
The group of “commercial participants”, including hedgers, increased their portfolio of net short positions as of May 8 from 80,833 to 86,635 net short contracts. Commercial participants hold 72.4% of the total short positions and 57.5% of the total long positions.
Non-commercial participants hold 17.1% of the total short positions and 32.0% of the total long positions.
The report includes 89.5% of the open short positions and 89.5% of the open long positions of the wheat futures.
In rapeseed, non-commercial participants turned the share of rapeseed futures and options from 7,964 net short contracts to 915 net long contracts.
Commercial participants increased their share of net short positions from 8,580 to 10.728 net short positions.
