FAO food index drops 0.9%

World food prices fell 0.9% in October. This is to be deduced from the new calculation of the United Nations FAO Price Index, published today in Milan.
The basket of cereal, oilseed and dairy, meat and sugar prices is forecast to have an index of 163.5 points in October, up from 164.9 points in September.
The FAO estimates world grain production in 2018 now at 2.601 billion tons; 10 million tons higher than in the previous forecast but still 57 million tons less than in the 2017 record harvest.
The world's wheat production in 2018 is estimated by the experts at 728 million tons; 4.3% less than last year.
