The global food prices fell in April as a result of a robust supply situation in most raw materials. The FAO's food index (food and agricultural organisation), the monthly look at a basket of cereals, oilseeds, dairy, meat and sugar, amounted to 171,0 points and thus 1.2 points below the March index in April in the middle. Since April last year, the index is declining.
The FAO estimates the global cereal production in 2015 to 2,509 billion tons. In the March forecast, this amounted to 2,548 million tons. 2014/15-season corn end stocks estimates now 626.6 million tons, compared with 645,65 million tons in the March estimate.
