Pork prices in China, already at a record level, could rise further after the recent flooding in the South of the country. Thousands of pigs have drowned in the floods and the transport to the slaughterhouses is broken in many places.
High pork prices in China, the world's largest pig market, are a problem for exporters in Europe and North America, however a windfall for the Chinese Government. In several southern and central provinces of China July were no longer since the beginning with Every hour up to 50 litres per square metre , so much rain fell, as 18 years.
It is not known how many farms are affected, on the website, Soozhu.com is it reported that thousands of pigs drowned in Hubei and Anhui Provinces. China's herds include 37 million sows, and 380 million pigs.
The supply situation I guess have delays in supplying the slaughterhouses only construction of livestock will now but longer continue a temporary Effekt.Der as planned. If the weather remains so extreme, ever fewer farmers are stepping up their pigs. This at least shows the experience in 2010, as the most affected regions produced two to four percent of fewer pigs in subsequent years after the flooding.
China's citizens consume pork around 54 million tons a year and the country is mostly independently powered. While consumption was largely stable, the livestock due to poor revenue from the mast dropped but for two years. Stricter environmental regulations and poor producer prices forced farmers to reduce their production and slaughter many sows. A low point in the sow population was reached in February, since then trying to rebuild the stocks, but the outbreak of pig disease repeatedly delayed the project. We did expect that supply and demand are balanced again until 2017, with the setback by the current weather disaster that will be probably difficult to create.
Exporters in Europe and the United States will benefit further. This year, China will import probably two million tons of pork, there were 1.5 million tons in the previous year. The world market with pork is just eight million tons.
