The EU Commission's proposals to cut farm subsidies in the 2021-2027 budget by five percent are unacceptable to France. This was announced by the French Ministry of Agriculture today. There will be a rejection of subsidy payments, said Stephane Travert, Minister of Agriculture and Nutrition. For Travert, such a drastic, massive and blind cut is unthinkable, it said in a statement.
France is by far the biggest beneficiary of the common agricultural policy (CAP).
The EU executive proposed on Wednesday to cut agricultural subsidies to support other policies. The proposal could lead to struggles between member states on how the funding gap could be closed.
