The French Ministry of Agriculture has reduced its 2020 winter wheat acreage estimate from 4.73 million hectares (December estimate) to 4.70 million hectares. For the 2019 acreage, that would be a decline of 5.6%.
The Ministry of Agriculture increased the winter barley acreage estimate from 1.25 million hectares to 1.31 million hectares and the durum acreage estimate from 225,000 hectares to 239,000 hectares. They would be stable compared to the previous year.
The estimate of rapeseed acreage was also increased from 1.05 to 1.08 million hectares.
Heavy rain has disrupted the autumn sowing of wheat and barley in France, the largest cereal producer in the European Union. Analysts are expecting a sharp decline in acreage.
