France raises sugar beet crop forecast

The French Ministry of agriculture increased its estimate for wheat and sugar beet yields; this morning the corn crop is estimated slightly smaller than in the previous month.
The updated estimate of this year's wheat crop in France is now to 28.1 million tonnes instead of 28 million tons in October. It confirmed a very small grain harvest to the difficult weather conditions in the spring and early summer.
Current sugar beet harvest was estimated at 1.2 million tons higher however, with 33.5 million tons as in October. Thus, approaches the year's harvest on the result of the previous year, is still 5% below the 5-year average.
The maize production in France is estimated by the Ministry now at 12.3 million tonnes. 300,000 tons less than the October estimate and 20% below the 5-year average are once again. Heat and drought reduced the harvest of the biggest grain producer in the EU this year.
