France sends delegation to Algeria

France plans to send a delegation to Algeria in early 2019 to discuss the cereals business of the two countries. French exporters are worried that Russia wants to dispute their biggest market.
They fear for their market dominance in Algeria because Russia's phytosanitary service has asked to be included in grain tenders in the future.
Currently, Russia can not offer wheat for Algeria, as the specification of wheat offers a strict limit on broken grains, which can not be met by the Russian side. Russia is currently the world's largest wheat exporter and export prices from there are mostly below those of France.
France's Deputy Minister of Commerce Jean-Babtiste Lemoyne follows a call from the French grain industry. The visit should be possible in the first quarter of 2019.
The French grain export association welcomes the diplomatic support of its government, especially as Russia is also trying to open up the Algerian market to its grain industry.
Algeria has been the sales market of at least half of the country's third-country grain exports in recent years. This season, France's market share is even 80%.
