The French Ministry of Agriculture estimates that the sugar beet acreage for the 2018 harvest will be 483,000 hectares. That would be slightly less than in 2017, when the acreage was 486,000 hectares.
Wheat acreage in 2018, including a small amount of summer wheat, is estimated at 4.98 million hectares, also slightly different from 2017 (4.96 million hectares).
For barley, the acreage is estimated at 1.85 million hectares, compared to 1.91 million hectares last year. This included 502,000 hectares of spring barley (previous year: 508,000 hectares).
Sugarbeet production in 2017 was revised up to a new record of 46.3 million tonnes, compared to 45.8 million (February estimate).
